What is the best way to fold a diaper?
There is no best way. Different methods work best for different babies, but the most
common folds are explained in the downloadable PDF available here. When we schedule an in-home consultation before you start using our service, we will show you different diaper folds,
and folds that work better for boys or girls. Regardless, putting on a cloth diaper is really not difficult or time-consuming.
Do daycares accept cloth diapering?
That will depend on your day care,
but there is certainly nothing in the Department of Social Service’s Child Day Care Regulations forbidding the use of cloth diapers. If your day care is reluctant to accept cloth diapering, we’d love to discuss
that with them. Furthermore, if after our discussion they are still reluctant, we’d be happy to provide you with a list
of day cares that respect your choice.
We also offer reduced diaper packages for those choosing to use disposables some of the time.
What if I forget to put my diapers out
on delivery day?
We
will still deliver your weekly supply of clean diapers, but arrangements for pickup of the dirty diapers will need to be made.
If this becomes a habit, an additional pickup charge may be applied.
What if I am going out of town?
Give us a call and we’ll make arrangements to place a hold on your account and
pick up your soiled diapers prior to your departure and drop off clean diapers prior to your return. We’ll also discuss
options available to those wishing to take cloth diapering on the road.
How do I pay for service?
While our pricing is based on weekly rates, whenever possible we would prefer to handle
billing on a monthly basis—with the month defined as 4 weeks. For those agreeing to this process, we would deliver an
invoice with the clean diaper delivery on the third week and collect payment on the fourth week, unless other payment arrangements
have been made. Payment can be made by check or credit card, in person or through our secure website, and we’d be happy
to keep your payment information on file for your convenience. We also offer incentives to those wishing to purchase three
months or more of service in advance.
What if I have more than one baby in cloth diapers? Do you offer discounts?
Yes. We offer a 25% discount off
the basic diaper service package for each additional child in cloth diapers.
Where should I place my diaper pail?
You’ll need to keep your diaper pail out of direct sunlight
due to the increased heat, but otherwise, where you place your pail will be a matter of personal preference. You’ll
obviously want to have your pail near your main changing table. If possible, it is best to dump solid waste down the toilet
before putting the soiled diaper in the pail.
Are there any diaper creams I cannot use with cloth diapers?
Yes, there are. Most makers of diaper creams now
offer creams specifically-formulated for cloth diapering, but otherwise please try to avoid any ointment formulated with fish
oil or zinc oxide. We do offer two popular and proven brands for sale in our on-line store, and natural alternatives (such
as corn starch and lanolin) are also popular with many parents.
How do I end service once our baby is successfully potty-trained?
Congratulations! You’ve done
the hard part, now just give us a call and we’ll arrange to pick up your remaining supplies, including those provided
with the start-up package (pail, liner, etc.), diapers (clean and dirty), rented wipes, and rented wraps. As per the rental
agreement signed when service was initiated, you will be held financially responsible for any missing or damaged supplies.
Do I have
to “dunk” diapers before dropping them in the pail?
No. Once the baby is eating solid foods and producing solid stool, you are encouraged
to dispose of that in the toilet—something you are also urged to do with disposable diapers as well, according to the
World Health Organization, the American Public Health Association, and even the Pampers website.
Otherwise, simply drop the dirty diaper in the
pail. In fact, we ask that you NOT rinse or pre-clean diapers. Certain chemicals can act to break down cotton fibers, causing
the diapers to wear out more quickly.
Do we need to use diaper pins?
No. Pins have been replaced with Snappi fasteners, which are provided as part of your
start-up package. Snappis have little teeth which gently hook into the cloth and elastic bands which provide enough tension
to keep diapers snuggly fastened around your baby. Further, many people don’t use Snappis at all with smaller babies,
finding instead that a well-fit wrap holds the diaper secure enough on its own.
My baby spends several days a week with her grandmother.
Do I need to get a separate pail for her house?
If you want to add a second location to your order—meaning a second pail and location
for drop-off and delivery—that can be arranged for an additional fee. Alternatively, you may find one of the wet-bags
offered in our store sufficient to meet your needs, or you can simply purchase an extra pail and liner from our on-line store.
Why should we buy products
from your on-line store?
We are a local, family-run business, and most of the products we carry are produced in the United States. Many of
our items are made by stay-at-home moms, and many of the companies whose products we sell are intentionally eco-conscious,
just like CottonTails Diaper Service. Our diaper service customers receive free delivery on any products they order, and we
can offer free or low delivery rates to most other local customers. For gifts to be given locally, we also offer free gift-wrapping.
Cloth diapers are so soft
and absorbent! Can I use them to polish my shoes?
We ask that you not use our diapers for anything other than their intended purpose,
although use as a burping cloth is certainly a forgivable offense. But, please fight the urge to use diapers for everything
else that you might be tempted to use a soft, lint-free, absorbent rag for. The chemicals found in many cleaning products
can damage diapers—even if that damage is not immediately visible.
Once diapers have out-lived their usefulness and are no longer suitable for diapers,
we do repurpose them as lint-free, absorbent rags which can be purchased for use by detailing shops, other cleaning professionals,
and people with unpolished shoes.
Our new baby-sitter is not comfortable with folding diapers. Can you help?
You may be interested in the All-in-Ones we offer
in our on-line store. These AIOs combine the benefits of a prefold cotton diaper’s absorbency and softness with the
waterproof protection of a polyester wrap. Although using one of our cotton prefolds, or using two prefolds, with our diaper
wraps will work fine for most customers, some parents also find AIOs to be a good night-time solution.
